The registration is ABOUT TO expire, namely in one week.
There was a RENEW pop-up in the past times, and to re-new the reg (for another year) was easily done.
This time was different. The pop-up gives a link to the shop and upgrade to other products only.
When clicking REGISTER or REGISTER NOW button from inside my program, it says “Retrieving information, please wait” for a while, but then nothing happens any more.
Is this system off-line or is it connected to the internet.
I had a popup at 12 days before renewal and it allowed it to proceed. There should only be a link to the shop if you selected the Avast Internet Security as your protection level - I chose the Avast Free Antivirus on the left of the window (image1 below).
Did you at any point see a Red Activate button to the left of your avastUI main window (image4) ?
Yes, I am connected. And on My Avast, I’m logged in.
It says here: “Your free license will expire soon or has already expired. Please follow the instructions in your Avast Antivirus or go to the Avast store to choose another license”.
You’re right, I “found” or better recognised the pop-up with the two options: “Standard protection” or “Complete Protection”. (The only thing is that the buttons were not visible. I only “see” with mouse cursor over it. By clicking, its the described issue. - Pls see attached screen shot of the pop-up.)
Please note, that my OS is Win XP Prof. 64-bit, but with SP2 only. Could this be the reason for that issue? (A YES as an answer alone won’t help ;D )
For that very reason, I am still using Avast Free program version 8 (a long story: the newer had issues with the OS). With my Avast UI, I never saw any red activate button. (I checked it now again.)
It is practically the same pop-up as in Fig. 1 from DavidR. But text is not shown.
If searching with mouse cursor on the respective places, there are both links (to update or to re-new registration) available.
And I followed the respective link to re-new the registration. And after the mentioned message “Retrieving information, please wait”, there is nothing more…
I don’t know if avast 8 is still supported or not. My XP Pro 32bit SP3 system has Avast Free 17.9.2322, not the very latest latest update 19.1.2326. I’m waiting as there is a beta session that resolves some bugs so will wait for that to be released.
So far haven’t experienced any major issues with more recent avast versions and haven’t used avast 8 on any of my three systems in some considerable time.
There is a possibility that XP Pro 64bit SP2 could be an issue as XP Pro 64bit never went higher than SP2. If avast isn’t explicitly looking to see if your XP installation is 64bit or 32bit only if it has SP3 I don’t know. I’m an avast user like yourself so I can’t say anything other than it is a possibility that not having SP3 could have an impact.
(1) if Avast Free Antivirus (new version) is compatible with Win XP Prof. 64-bit OS, SP2, i.e., Windows Server 2003? Pls note, that there is no SP3 for it.
(2) whether or not any Pro or Premier version of Avast is supporting that OS?
(3) if Avast Free Antivirus program version 8.0.1497 is still supported at all?
(4) what could cause the described issues with renewing registration? (a bug or a feature?)
I understand that mostly USERS, not DEVELOPERS are reading here in forum? Whom to contact best (or better)?
ad 1) XP SP2 isn’t supported, neither Server 2003
ad 2) no, we support XP SP3 and higher
ad 3) it gets virus database updates, but I wouldn’t recommend you to use it…
ad 4) ignore the warnings, the program will autoregister itself and you are always protected, don’t worry
