Can't Remove Extutil and Maragera

I Can’t Remove Extutil and Maragera with Avast. I have followed topic 532530. Log files are attached

Wait for a qualified remover to show up. It is very late, early Sunday night here in Western Europe, most removers are asleep.

The problem seems to be fixed now. Thanks. I can send the offending .exe files that started this problem if you are interested. Otherwise I will delete them.

Are you experiencing any other problems ?

I have not other problems that I am aware of. What a royal pain in the ass this one was. No more downloads from downloads.com for me.

I can send the offending .exe files that started this problem if you are interested.

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Remove tools

Download and run Delfix

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/javara.JPG

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/CryptoPrevent.JPG

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Unchecky

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

Good grief:

Polonus asked for an encrypted zip file of the suspected files and I didn’t find winzip on this computer. So I tried to install it from another computer and the install program winzip19_lan_setup.exe turned out to have the Extutil and Managera infections. So I am back where I started. I’ll try to run the fixit thing again.

BTW I do use Java for making Google Map do special things on Maps I produce. I will try to protect against it.

It may be a different variant, so it would be best to run a fresh FRST scan

Success:

Sorry guys but the Google Forum on the topic found a fix. I did it and it worked. Here is the text.
I removed managera and extutil by uninstalling Chrome. I saved my bookmarks to my PC and removed all browsing history upon uninstall, rebooted, re-installed Chrome and all is good. Total time 15 minutes or so. Easy.

Ctrl+alt+delete
Kill all chrome processess (fast as possible)
Directy after (while remove programs page is open) click uninstall Chrome. (if not able to uninstall - make sure you killed every process named chrome)
In windows file manager, select to display all hidden files. Delete chrome folder under program and under users\appdata… (if you have several users make sure to delete chrome folders under each user)
Restart computer (dont know if necessary but do it anyway)

And yes - avast scans ssl connections so need to disable this in avast so chrome can install properly.
Reinstall chrome, login google. Enable avast.
Should be ok.

At least avast cant find anything. Both chrome and explorer shows ok when surfing google pages such as gmail.
Problem solved.
