Can't renew free anti-virus due to paid ad

So if I click “Extend Now”, it takes me to the comparison page between Free and Paid:

If I select the free one, it takes me to an ad for “cheaper paid Avast service,” and I cannot move past this ad. I want to extend the free option, I do not want to pay the extra. If I exit this ad, it takes me back to clicking the “Extend Now” button, which just loops me through the same three pages, and the ad has no skip or continue on or any other option that doesn’t lead to paying for premium. What can I do?

How do you exit the ad? Did you click the close window icon top right?

Avast uses deceptive dark patterns even though they are illegal in for instance the EU.

Click Select on the free version, then close out all windows after that trying to lure you into a paid subscription.

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.

I have also been using Avast Antivirus Free for over 21 years. Yes there is push as the renewal date nears (how long has your got to go), but it eventually renews the Free product.

How did this popup windows occur, e.g. what were you going at the time ?
Had you just run an on demand scan, a common trigger.

You might also want to check your Avast Settings:
Managing pop-up notifications in Avast Antivirus. ** Avast UI > Menu > Settings > General > Notifications.

  • Also check the AvastUI > Menu > Settings > General - Notifications, I would also suggest using the Pop-up Notifications treatment - Limited Mode.

When I click “Extend Now” it opens a new window in the Avast program that shows the difference between Free and Paid, and then if I click “Select” under free it takes me to this page:

If I close out of the window, I’m just back to the home page with the “Extend Now” option.

I’m pretty close to the cutoff, I’ve got 8 days left

I have tried to get some Avast Team input for your issue.

I’m pretty sure you won’t actually stop receiving updates, but you’ll have to wait and see.

If closing out the second window doesn’t work then it indeed seems something is not going right.

I have this same issue. Did you ever find a solution? Or did you have to uninstall, reinstall?
