Can't send email using Avast 4.5

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird v.9 and have Avast 4.5. Problem is sending email, I can’t. I can receive but can’t send. If I close Avast, I can send. I followed the instructions in the following link,

Do you have Avast 4.5.536? If not, I suggest you upgrade and try again.
