Since I upgraded Avast to 4.7 version I keep getting the following error message everytime I start the PC:

When does this error happen, only after login or at any time?
Check if into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.
Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
Besides, this maybe uninstalling and installing the latest version from the scratch could help.
Oh, do you use Spyware Doctor?
Yes, it happened only and everytime I logged in.
I tried to uninstall it, but wouldn’t let me: “A setiface error has ocurred:2. Try to reinstall or contact support, please”.
Then I tried to reinstall the latest update 000736-2, and it wouldn’t let me do it either: "Can’t install VPS update, report the following error codes.
Ver 4.7.986
SI:0x00000002
ST:0x00000000
LE:0x00000000
At last, downloaded the latest version of the program, and when tried to install it, first it automatically uninstalled the one I had, and after restarting, I could install it from scratch (current version 000736-2).
Restarted a couple of times and the error is not coming up anymore. Looks like reinstall was the solution.
Thanks!
Cheers!
Just change (or add) AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds value into the [InetWD] section of avast4.ini file.
You could set the number of seconds to wait before attempting to update. The default is 30 but it may not be enough in some DSL systems. In this case, you can try increasing this e.g. to 60 (1 minute). That should be enough.
More details here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1647
For the other problems, yes, it could be the solution.
I thought the latest avast updates reducing the update priority should have eliminated/improved this error, obviously not. Unless it is something else.
Maybe… but you know, process priority is related to RAM and the delay the finish of the login process, when all the hardware (network) will be working and active… Even with the new version I set a delay in my computer. Otherwise, login will be bloated, not only with avast but everything else I can delay, I do.
I don’t thing Process Priority has anything to do with RAM but CPU processing Priority. If it were related to RAM why would it effect even those with say 1GB RAM.
Regardless of how much RAM you have a program with a higher priority will be processed before one of a lower priority. So if the update process had an equal priority or higher priority than ashServ.exe it would slow that down. Previously I believe the avast update had the same High priority as ashServ.exe.
