Can't update avast (no space)

I just formatted my son’s pc, installed windows ME and avast. 75 gigs free space and when I try to update avast it gets to about 90% then stops and says there’s not enough space. I’ve attached screenshots, and the log.

Please help guys.

Saw the same thing about a week ago on a W95 machine with 4.8.1229. Upgraded to 4.8.1296 and I think it then updated the definitions without error but I’ve not used it since.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

This is actually related to the size of RAM. How much RAM does the system have?

I still haven’t got back to the W95 PC I mentioned to see if it auto-updates but I know it’s an AMD K7 (133mhz x 11.5) with 512MB.

Sorry I had a bit of a problem with the net and didn’t get back on until today, anyways Avast still isn’t updating. I’ve reinstalled it but no joy.

Here’s the specs on the machine.

P4 2.4ghz
512 mb ram
74 GB free space on the HD.
