my avast free needs updating but i cant update it, but neither can i remove the program to use avg or anything else, please help???

What version of avast are you using ?
Why can’t you update, what errors are displayed ?
Why can’t you uninstall, again what errors ?
Please try uninstall avast in safe mode.

You should also use the uninstall utility if you’re going to go that route.
