I’ve just done a fresh clean windows10 install on a formatted SSD but problems remains with Avast!
The avast antivirus program or the virus definition file can’t be updated anymore on both computers running Windows 10 64bits.
It always fails returning an “unknown error” while downloading files :“servers.def.vpx”, “prod-pgm.vpx” or virus def files.
Also sign in to my account (Google+) from Avast free Antivirus seems to be broken…
On PC 1 : Avast Free Antivirus 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.23), virus def 17406.2
On PC 2 : Avast Free Antivirus 17.3.2291 (build 17.3.3443.0), virus def 170329.2 (Fresh Windows10 install)
My internet connexion is OK but Avast is seriously obstructed on both computers. I need your HELP!
Perform a repair of avast and see if that solves the problem.
If not, perform a clean installation of the latest avast version with the off-line installer and check if that solves it.
Hello Eddy. Thanks for your reply. I’ve done both of your suggestions prior to post here and problem remains.
I’ve done some logs also… hope this can help somehow
No, I am having the same issue. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled fresh, also tried a repair of the new install and still get unknown error when trying to update virus definitions.
Came in to see if there was an answer to this as have had this problem for around a week or so same as above will look for the avast clear see what that does…
Please try resetting Internet Options > Advanced > Reset Internet Explorer settings to defaults. This will reset all Internet related settings (proxies, connections, etc.) to default settings. You can find the dialog window by clicking Start > typing Internet Options in the search text box.
My problem came from a 3rd party firewall, I only use System and Web Shield, all other stuff unchecked on install.
I was getting the “Download failed with error 0x00002bdc!”.
I added a rule for C:\Programs\AVAST\setup\instup.exe through my firewall and the updates now work.
Oh it help a few of you as I did not find a specific topic on external firewalls… one from 2005 and 2009 but nothing pertaining to a more recent version.
