When you download and save a avast version and then try to use it later it will not install the older version but makes you download the newer version. So why even save it then? Sometimes you like to use a older version for some reason but now you can’t. It should be up to the person using the program to make that choise not the company.
Are you referring to the beta versions?
It’s not a good idea to downgrade… Anyway, I suggest an installation from the scratch:
- Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
- Boot.
- Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
- Boot.
- Stay off-line (not connected to Internet)
- Install again the old version: http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/
- Boot.
- Register avast (insert the registration key).
- Uncheck the programs updates (set to manual).
- Only then connect to Internet (go on-line).
- Check and post the results.
Why would you downgrade?
asw clear.exe to uninstall avast is not working in safe mode as well as in normal mode
so how should i uninstall my avast as it is generating message on uninstalling that product file""not found
please helllppppp
No, I wanted to reinstall my old saved version 6.0.1289 but when I double clicked on it it made me download the newer version.
I don’t understand exactly the real problem, but if you want the Free edition of avast, filehippo.com has old versions to download.
To be clear, I’m not recommending to use and old version. I’m just trying to “answer”. I’m not sure this helps you though.
What I’m trying to say is I downloaded and then saved v. 6.0.1289 to my hard drive some time ago, then today I wanted to delete it from my computer and reinstall it. I double clicked on the v. 6.0.1289 setup file but it told me I had a older version and that it was going to download the newer version. What I want to know is why it won’t let me reinstall the older version. When did this start happening because I never had this problem before.
Why do you want to “downgrade”? Isn’t that one step back? Why use v6.01289 when v6.0.1367 is available? ???
The keyword is upgrade.
I have no good answer as to “why”. Do you use avast Free edition? Go to filehippo.
You say you deleted avast. Do you mean Uninstalled? Have you removed the remnants?
Moreover, it is not so clear to me if you have already updated to (or installed) a newer version and you want to go back by running the setup of the older version. If this is the case, I have 2 things to say.
First, the setup.exe of the old version won’t “downgrade” correctly, so you would need to really uninstall and remove any potential remnants before installing anew the old version again.
The second, it could be useful (both for avast and, specially, for you) to explain the real problem that makes you think that you would be better with an older version. Maybe we can find a real actual solution to the real actual problem, so you could use an updated protection. It’s up to you, and I would recommend this path much more than the “downgrade” one.
Reguardless of my reason to use a older version avast should not force me to download a newer version when I already have the version I want saved on my computer.
I have seen other users successfully installing older versions. This is the first time I read about avast “forcing” the user to update. I guess you could try installing while not connected to the Internet, but again, I have not seen such a case. Maybe you could attach some screenshot of the step where you are forced to do this (but crop it to include only the necessary information and not a the whole screen if not necessary).
I downloaded v. 6.0.1289 from file hippo and did everything everyone told me to do but it still forces me to update to a new version. I even tried to install while I was offline because I thought this was the problem but it still didn’t work. This is really wield because I used to be able to install older version before. I will attach a screenshot soon maybe that will help but I doubt it.
Have you actually uninstalled ALL versions and products of Avast from your machine using the Avast Uninstaller Tool http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility?
- Download the Avast Uninstall Utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD.
- Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
- Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
- If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool. You may need to uninstall each version or product and reboot in between.
Then try to install the version of Avast you have saved on your HDD. See if this resolves your problem.
Here is the screenshot that shows avast forces a update upon me!
Please follow SafeSurf’s suggestion and then disconnect from Internet and run the old installer.
If all previous remnants are gone, the setup won’t know it is “old”.
There are also command line parameters to force an installation, but the best method should be the one already suggested.
Like I said before I did all that and it still forces a update.
I think you’re gonna have to run the Avast removal tool then go through your system manually removing every trace of the old install, including registry keys and data. The removal tool doesn’t do all that. Once you do that it should be okay. If not then something really weird is going on.
Yes, please go back to my post #11 and follow these directions step by step. You will most likely need to reboot in between each uninstall. Let us know if this works for you. Thank you.
