CCleaner shows it cleans Avast 8 AND Avast 6... how come there's two?

Hello, I have been meaning to ask about this for a long time. When I use CCleaner to routinely clean my computer, it always lists two different Avast programs(?) that it has cleaned. It says “Avast Antivirus 6” as well as “Avast Antivirus 8”. The 6 one always has the most temp files to delete and the 8 one only has a couple files usually. I attached a screen shot and highlighted what I mean.

I have the newest version of Avast Internet Security (2015.10.2.2218) and have always updated the program whenever a new one comes out and no matter what, even after an Avast program update, it still says Antivirus 6 and Antivirus 8 (the numbers never change). I don’t know what the current number is or where to find that info, all I know is I have Avast version 2015.10.2.2218.

In my list of installed programs, I only have one single Avast product - Avast Internet Security - so I don’t think I have two of them installed (that would probably be impossible anyways, right?)… but is it normal to see two Avasts listed like that in CCleaner? If so, why?

Thanks in advance for any help/education/explanation.

Yes it a CCleaner bug, typo, or whatever. They have not corrected it yet.

Now, I should not let CCleaner clean anything from Avast. The advice here is to uncheck both Avast from CCleaner, and let Avast do its own cleaning.

Okay, thank you! I will uncheck both Avast in CCleaner.
Also, just so I know, how does Avast do its own cleaning? Does it do it automatically or do I need to click anything in Avast?

Thanks again!

It does it automatically so do not worry

…and you are welcome.

Aha, I see now, thanks! I just now found it in the Avast interface under Settings>Maintenance>Auto Clean-up… and it is already set to delete logs older than 30 days, etc. Thanks again!

There are other files that Avast downloads like updates definitions, or when it opens some kind of files to test that are cleaned automatically when Avast deemed fit.

Again a pleasure to help.

Basically CCleaner seems incapable of determining which version of avast you have. If you look into the Applications > Utilities section there are more than just two versions mentioned. Versions 6,7&8 are mentioned, yet no mention of avast 9 or 10.

Just have a look through that Applications list and you will see many more anomalies and not just related to avast. It seems that when an installation is no longer installed or updated the old entry remains.

Oh, yep, now I see a couple other things in CCleaner that I no longer have but are still listed, weird. I’m glad it’s a known issue/anomaly and not something wrong with my computer settings or anything.

Thanks again, both of you!

You’re welcome.
