When I go to shut down my laptop, I receive a messge saying that Avast has detected there is a CD inserted - when there isn’t! How can I resolve this issue and shut down properly instead of having to hibernate all the time. ???
Hi…
This might work for the mean time: Please bring up your the main avast window and click on “Menu.” From there, make sure the entry “Common” is highlighted and then see if the box “Check CDs in drive when logging off” is checked. If so, uncheck it and click “OK.”
You might also want to run a repair installation of avast in case there is a problem with avast. Go into the Control Panel and click on “Add/Remove Programs,” (in Vista Home Premium and possibly other versions, “Programs and Features,”) and click on “avast.” When you get to a menu on the left hand side, scroll down and you should see “Repair.” Please reboot when it finishes. ![]()
Please post back with the results. ![]()

What OS are you using ?
I’ve seen this happen in XP before, Follow ardvark’s advice then try this: Put a CD in the drive and let it load, then open My Computer, Right click on the CD drive and choose “eject”. This always fixed the problem for me. It seems that XP sometimes “Forgets” that you have removed the CD.
