I have a cd called “Hacking O’Shit” which I bought it 3 years ago, and I forgot it in my cd keeper since then, last week I did an experiment, I scanned the cd using updated avast pro with all options, it detected 193 infected files. I scanned the same cd with Norton 2004 and it detected much more infected files than avast. WHY?
Can I upload the cd or email it so you can analyze it and add the unknown viruses to avast’s virus list?
Technical,do you know if this FTPs can be used for regular submissions (or only for big ones?)?
It would be much easier for me to send malware through it,rather than using email.
The FTP is meant as a backup possibility for big transfers (where e-mail is not an option). It is certainly not monitored regularly (actually, I would say many people here don’t know about it, and most of the rest don’t have rights to access it). So, sending something to the FTP, without it having been requested previously, doesn’t have much sense.
Viruses should really be submitted via the usual e-mail address or Chest.
mhd, you can upload the CD image to the FTP, I’ll pass it to the virus guys. (But I guess similar “collections” don’t have a very high priority, so don’t expect an update within a day).
Thanks.
Technical, rypacek, besides being in US at the moment, is dealing mostly with network stuff (Web Shield, etc.) - so his e-mail address is not really appropriate for this question
As soon as I have an access to the broadband connection, within days, I will upload an image of the cd. And I will let you all know that via this topic…
