Change default options of Avast 5

Hello guys!

I started to check some of the default settings of the security providers (webshield file shield, P2P, etc) and realized that all have the PUP detection set as disable. So I started to enable this detection in all providers…

Is there any other setting that you guys sugests to change from the default options?

The full computer scan also comes with 2 options related to pre cache of the file. The second option that stores the cache file info (that could increase the time of the scan) comes enabled.
And the second that says something about use the info collected above to speed up the scan (that decrease the time of the scan) comes disable.

Should I invert the selection to get a faster on demand scan?

Ps–> Yesterday I also installed in the laptop (.377) and its already running perfectly. When I get back to home I will install the last release (.396) and see if it will run ok too :slight_smile:

  1. I though that feature was on by default, me I have set it to Ask so as not to send directly to the chest as my first action, move to chest 2nd and No action 3rd.

I don’t really know how much more activity that would generate and any accompanying alerts relating to PUPs. As that may well bring more fear than reassurance for those of a nervous disposition.

  1. Leave the cashing settings as they are, it takes time to build the database but once complete it will improve scan speed. So your suggestion to disable is a short term saving for the first few scans whilst the database info is compiled. After that it has the reverse effect as all files would be scanned even if they hadn’t changed since the last scan, etc.

  2. My manual update from the avast UI worked just fine with 3.77 to .396.
