Chitka (the little chit)

Hello. My mother’s computer is having trouble with Chitka popups. I tried running various Avira Antivirus scans, but it did not solve the problem. A google search brought me here, where I see you have helped others. I noticed a common beginning was to run either AdwCleaner and/or OTP and give the reports, so they are attached. Thank you for what you’ve done in the past for others, here’s hoping I’ll have the same result.

also run Malwarebytes quick scan…click…remove selected if anything is found, and attach log

malware removers are notified

“The scan completed successfully. No malware was detected.” Log attached anyways, of course. Thanks for the prompt reply.

Hi there run this and let me know if that kills it

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

Okay. I pasted and ran the fix. At the resethost part, Avira popped up and said access to host file is denied, so I ran it again after disabling Avira. Both logs are attached.

After ~5 minutes of browsing, no pop-ups are popping up, so that’s nice. I am going to hesitantly say thank you for all your help so far, though I will also check back to make sure the logs don’t warn of disaster.

Makes you wonder why Avira did not stop it in the first place if it blocked OTL from resetting the Host file ;D

Run OTL and press the cleanup button to remove it and its associated folders

As much as I dislike Avira now, I can’t blame it for not catching that, since I just installed it. Maybe if we could stand its popups it would protect us by disabling other popups. Or maybe I’ll just give my “don’t click on bad things” speech again to the parents.

In any case, thank you very much! All problems seem to be gone, the balance has been restored, etc. What you do is much appreciated, and now I am able to give my personal thanks, instead of second-hand approval.
