Choosing Boot-Time scan & pressing start takes ages for restart box to appear

Hi guys,

I have a slight issue, I am sorry if this isnt the correct way to post this topic, please forgive me. The problem is over the few weeks my avast anti virus has been working flawlessly until i found this little issue. When I open my avast antivirus program and select scan and then select scan for viruses and choose Boot-time Scan, upon clicking on the orange start button the message box that should appear instantly showing the following text: “The boot-time scan will run on the next system restart. Do you want to restart the computer now” now takes ages for it to appear. It use to be instant and I havnt changed anything on my system, nor have i installed any new software. Everything remains the same.

I did get a new avast antivirus update on the 27th of april which may have caused this, can anyone confirm if they having the same issue. If they can, can you try to reproduce the issue by selecting boot time scan and pressing the orange start button and seeing how long it takes for the restart box to appear. Basically upon pressing the orange start button on the boot-time scan the box which informs the user to restart there machine takes ages to appear, before it use to appear instantly and now it takes ages.

If I re-click on the orange start button again while waiting for the restart box to appear on my screen as the mouse curser has a circle symbol indicating its loading, avast hangs and says its not responding and then after a while the restart box appears. The boot-time scan, quick scan, full scan and all other scans work fine, just this issue of waiting for the boot-time scan restart box to appear takes ages to show when it didnt.

I have tried the following to fix the issue:

Re-installed Avast
Re-installed the OS (Winsows 10)

None of these fixed the issue.

Any help would be greatful, especially if anyone of you people can try to reproduce the problem by selecting boot-time scan and pressing start and seeing how long it takes for the restart box to appear.

Thank you, if you require any more info please let me know.

Boot time scan is not meant to be used as a regular scanner so a minor bug if you need to wait for that once a year ...

I know its not a regular scanner, I just spotted what seems a bug and would like to know if others are experiencing the same thing. I see this is is the wrong area to post this, i will be moving the post. Last time I had a issue and posted it here and the admins thanked me as i found a bug. Maybe this is also a bug, i shall move this post to the free anti virus section. Feel free to delete this post as I dont know how to as I am a newbi

Thank you

The delay seems to be a local issue on your system. It isn’t anything I experience on mine ???

Ahhh ok, i never had this issue before it was fine before the update. No idea what is causing the delay. Thanks for the reply.

I will download the older version and see if the issue still persists. It may be local, but when i had issues with avast password tool bar I was informed the some other users have experienced the same issue and was indeed a bug. I will tell you if the older version, the one before the april update fix’s the issue if it does then its not local

Try a repair of the current version and see it that clears up your problem.

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Thanks for you help, I did write I re installed Avast, and i reinstalled my entire OS still the problem exsists. I have found i cant download a oldeer version of avast as the files contains the newset update.

What i can do is check on my other pc and see if the problem is on that pc, hold on

I tried 3 pc’s same issue. And all these pc’s are different, I have tried ur suggestions again and no avail still there is delay on restart message to appear.

Strange this time I experienced the same delay as you can see in this video:

I’m reporting this to Avast. Let’s see if they have an answer or a fix.

Yep thats the same delay I am getting exactly the same, I am getting the same dely on my other 3 other pc’s. I spotted a bug last time and the avast team thanked me, This may well be another bug lol. I checked on my other pc’s and the issue is the same. Its a shame I cant download the older version of avast as i never had this issue until the april update. Even if i get the older version of avast from FileHippo it seems the file it self has the newest update allready installed.

So I cant confirm if this issue was on the pervious update, but as my memory recalls before the update the boot time scan restart box came on instantly there was no delay. You probley thinking why I did the boot time scan, I like to make sure every 3 months my pc is not effected with anything. and last month was the 3 month period for me. As for this month well I accidently clicked on boot time scan while i was checking for bad toolbar addons and i noticed the delay. I made sure I was getting the delay rather then a 1 of issue before I came here.

Thank you for your time, and your efforts, I have been with avast for over 3 years. Use to love the blue version of avast back in the days lol and u could change ur skin lol.

Have a blessed day guys and thank you for a very warm welcome on these forums.

You’re welcome. Let’s see what Avast has to say.
I started using Avast back in 2003.

Cool u been with avast for ages. I just feel avast as a free antivirus has a lot to offer compared to others that are on for free. And thank you for the help, if your from the uk am sorry if i kept u up late as its 1.25am and very late.
