Hi all,
I downloaded the Google Chrome stub installer (900kb) and executed. (This was done after avast was installed
and working normally; I did not install the avast chrome)
But the Chrome installation fails, as long as the avast shields are active. To successfully install Chrome,
I first had to disable the shields.
Running XP, latest FREE version, custom install, web & file shields only.
See this image.
I can only assume (nobody has told me otherwise) that sometimes avast interferes with certain downloads.
This is one example, In Firefox I’ve had many file downloads mysteriously end up as “failed”,
even small files. Why? The only way to get a success was to temporarily stop the shields for
the duration of the download.
I don’t have your problems but I’m also not running Windows XP and a modified OLD version of avast.
It will also be almost impossible to duplicate your situation.
It’s an old OS because the PC is older hardware - XP works best on it.
Not sure what you mean when you said I’d “modified” avast. I chose a custom install and
picked the options I wanted. Obviously my chosen config is OK for avast since it was allowed
via the installer.
I do have another PC with Windows 7, I’ll try it there and see if it still occurs.
Hi davexnet. I have the same problem. I’m using Firefox 38.0.5 and Avast 2015.10.2.2218. Specifically, if I turn-off Avast “File System Shield”, then I can download files using Firefox. I checked the report file for “File System Shield”, but there is nothing mentioned. I have my “actions” set to “ask”, but Avast does not ask. Have you found a solution other than disabling Avast? Thank you.
