Chrome Frame Question?

My friend is still using Internet Explorer 6

He told me that he likes it because it is fast, that is ‘according to him’

I told him that IE 6 is a security threat

If I install Chrome Frame for him, does it remove the Internet Explorer security threat?

NO.

Internet Explorer has to be at least IE8 as it is used everywhere in Windows.

Please read about Windows Explorer

Windows Explorer is a file manager application that is included with releases of the Microsoft Windows operating system from Windows 95 onwards. It provides a graphical user interface for accessing the file systems. It is also the component of the operating system that presents many user interface items on the monitor such as the taskbar and desktop. Controlling the computer is possible without Windows Explorer running (for example, the File | Run command in Task Manager will function without it, as will commands typed in a command prompt window). It is sometimes referred to as the Windows Shell, explorer.exe, or simply “Explorer”.

All current Windows Updates should be installed! :o

Maybe they are using pirated Windows ???

Hi Chris Thomas,

Why does not he install the new flock browser, they are going the Chrome way, as that is the way browsers go:
http://beta.flock.com/
If all these browsers had a decent protection I would follow to, but I cling to full protection with NoScript and RequestPolicy in the older flock Mozilla version: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.16) Gecko/2010010414 Firefox/3.0.16 Flock/2.5.6 ID:2010010414

Oh how I hate those TV ads with IE in the main role pestering Firefox, it is a sign they are afraid of losing their browser monopoly…

Hi Chris…

That’s true, it is much faster than IE7 or 8. But as others have mentioned, it’s also a lot less secure than IE7 or 8. Is your friend running Windows XP? If so, have him try Opera and see what he thinks. Admittedly, it won’t be as fast as IE6 or handle every site out there but it will be more secure. If he (still) chooses to stick with IE6 exclusively, I would advise him to beef up his system’s security (apart from his AV program if he hasn’t already…

  1. SpywareBlaster
  2. MalwareBytes free or Pro and/or Windows Defender
  3. Zemana Antilogger if he is running 32 bit and budget permitting.
  4. There is also Sandboxie if he is interested.

Hope this helps…

Regards…

Thanks all for your wise answers

I forced him to update to IE 8 and installed for him Firefox and Chrome

Now, he is saying he likes Chrome

Problem solved - His insistence on IE 6 was the main problem…

And I though Chrome Frame removes the security vulnerability of IE :-[

Hi Chris…

You’re welcome, although I agree with your friend that too many programs these days are more “resource intensive” than they need to be.
