Chrome with uBlock Origin Lite causes the browser to lag

Hi,
I’m not sure if this is caused by Avast, but it’s possible. I have Avast Free (25.5.) installed on Windows 10 22H2 64-bit, and I’m using the latest version of Chrome with uBlock Origin Lite using the default settings (Optimal filtering mode).

My browser lags a lot, and sometimes it almost freezes. Although the problem disappears after removing the extension, I’m unable to reproduce it on a computer without Avast.

What I tried:

  • I deleted the “User Data” folder and then installed uBlock Origin Lite — the problem persists.
  • I uninstalled Chrome (including the “User Data” folder), reinstalled it, and installed uBlock Origin Lite again — the problem still persists.

I tested it with every setting set to default.

I have no idea what to do next. Chrome works normally only without this extension

I don’t use chrome, but Firefox as my default browser and the uBlock Origin Lite browser extension and I don’t experience this.

Some of the most frequently used/visited (trusted) site/s I drop the uBlock Origin Lite settings down a notch or lower if I trust the site. Bearing i mind if there was anything suspect I would expect the Web Shield to kick in. Wasn’t it Google whinging about these add-ons, hence the move to uBlock Origin Lite because of Google restrictions.

I also use uMatrix extension in Firefox and that is highly configurable.
