Chtr_dectree.js js:Feebsf

Hello,

I am new to this forum and might not be posting properly…sorry…

Yesterday I uninstalled AVG because it was taking so long to scan. I downloaded Avast, started the scan and very soon got a message that it had detected a virus. It surprised me (I have never had a virus)and I hastily sent it to the virus vault. Now that it is there, I don’t know what to do. I e-mailed it to Avast, but have not heard from them. That was early this morning.
The name of the thing is: chtr_dectree.js js:Feebs f.

Can someone tell me what I should do. It is very difficult to try to figure out this program!!

Thank you!

I think avast could have managed the infection and you’re clean.
To be sure, can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
If infected files are found, it’s safer to send them to Chest instead of deleting them.
This way you can further analysis them.

Besides this, I suggest:

  1. Disable System Restore and reenable it.
  2. Clean your temporary files.
  3. Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
  4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here.

You can’t do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.

Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.
