I need some assistance. I just downloaded a free spyware called Spyware Terminator. I am in the process of installing it, but it comes with an antivirus feature called Clam AntiVirus Integration. It is recommended to integrate this into the Spyware Terminator. I have the option to not install it. My question is this, should I install the Clam AntiVirus even though I am already using Avast’s free home edition antivirus program? Thanks for the advice, Megaman
it can be utilised alongside avast! for a second opinion without causing problems as I understand. It has no resident (constant monitoring) so wont conflict.
Avast! standard sheild should probably be paused while you scan with it though .
Good luck
I think the ClamWin installed through Spyware Terminator ‘could’ be resident.
See the ST options.
Anyway, it won’t conflict with avast as the ‘resident’ itself is from ST (checking viruses signatures on-access, resident).
So it’s okay to install ClamWin and use it with Avast. Do I have to turn anything off from Avast? Thanks, Mega
One more thing, do I have to change anything in the ST options? Mega
No, you shouldn’t change avast installation. What you should do is NOT install the email scanning of ClamWin (or plugin for Outlook, etc.), avoiding conflicts with avast plugin.
You can change whatever you want. The resident won’t conflict with avast but, indeed, your computer performance will be degraded, as both togheter they could use quite some resources. I’ll suggest you to not use ST as a resident, just for on-demmand scannings.
What do you mean by not suggesting to use the ST as a resident, just for on-demand scannings? Thanks, Mega
Well… I think it’s not necessary as avast will cover the most common infections.
You can enable the resident, but your computer performance will degrade, just that.
