I’ve just acquired a new PC where Avast Home edition is bundled. This is my first use of Avast and I’d like to know if it is clear in term of license…the vendor is a bit unclear…
The “about…” window says:

Expiration date: 13 feb 2013 -
From what I understand on 13 feb 2013 the product expires (time bomb?)! What expires on 13 feb 2006 (very soon)? – net update? , other?
From what I read about the home version, I though it was free of charge…Am I wrong assuming this?
You have what appears to be a trial version (60 days unrestricted use) at the end of that period you won’t be able to get VPS updates (virus signature updates).
avast! home is free, you are required to register and receive a registration key, this helps avast with the number of and distribution of active users so they can plan server suppord for downloads of VPS and Program updates.
When you register avast! 4 Home Registration you will receive a registration key which wil give you 14 months free VPS and Program updates, you will need to re-register again at this point.
