I think i am finally where i need to be …okay …this is my problem …found some rootkit and adaware “win 32” and being new to using avast sent them straight to chest …well here is my problem … i need these cleaned to run my computer properly …ummm…really don’t want to restore the files …afraid of what else they will try to attach too…so is there anyway to clean or repair these files while they are in the chest?..If anyone can help me …please let me know…really need my computer …thanks rip-roarin-42
If you have a Windows disc, you’d probably be better off copying the files from there, or repaiting your installation from the disc. You might also have a restore partition you could copy the files from.
If you can’t delete these suspicious files ,I suggest you
can use other Antivirus Software.Don’t worry!
If these are indeed trojan/rootkit based files, the operating system does not need them, nor can they be cleaned. They are purpose-built malware files, and nothing to do with any legitimate program.
If they are system files corrupted by a virus, the answer freewheeling frank gave is appropriate.
The full name and detection path of each and any of them may help a determination (or indication) to made on the forum. I’d also recommend submitting (emailing) them to Avast from the chest, and rescanning them over the next few days, periodically.
What part of your computer is not working correctly?
Well you don’t mention the file names or their original location:
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashLogV.exe
What section of the chest they are located now ?
Why do you need these cleaned, relates to what the file names and locations were ?
What isn’t running properly ?
