Clean messages in emails

Sorry to beat a dead horse.
Searching the forum, I’m getting (to me, anyway) conflicted answers to the following, therefore:

  1. Is there anything close to a definitive answer re: clean message insertions emails in Avast (4.8 and 5), that is why sometimes it shows up and other times no.
Is this related to pure text emails, html emails, or other considerations?
  2. Regardless, if a message comes through without the clean message, can one assume the Mail Shield is still doing its thing?
My config is pop3/port 110/Vista (prev XP)/Avast/Spysweeper/Zonealarm firewall

The most important piece of information is missing, what email program are you using ?

Followed by the next most important piece of information, are you only using webmail ?
As you can’t insert clean notes into webmail (very few exceptions).

I see this also.
I have Avast 5.0.377 , Outlook, Windows XP SP3.
The messages do show up when sent or received and review but not not while it is being written or seen in its original in box form like it did in version 4.

In other words the message footer does not show up on both incoming and sending unless you look at them (open) to review.

I hope this helps.

It is probably best to create your own new topic (considered hijacking a topic), as trying to deal with what might be different problems just confusing for the original poster and those trying to help.

Personally I’m not sure of the worth of these messages other than for outbound email, which advertises avast, but there is no distinction of only doing it for outbound emails (all or nothing) and I most certainly don’t need it on inbound email, avast will let you know if one is infected.

Stupid me. I failed to mention I use Thunderbird and Firefox.

Still, should I infer that even though the clean message does not appear (IN, in particular), that Avast is still doing it’s thing?

I can maybe see the point about only showing up on outgoing email.

Trust me, I’m not trying to be overly critical here.

I do like the Avast product!

Well thunderbird (version number ?) should work OK with the Mail Shield in avast 5. There are however, exceptions (aren’t there always) If the remote location of the emails is webmail based and you use some sort of HTML to POP converter, it may not work. As it has to strictly conform to the POP3 protocol.

I don’t use tbird so I’m not familiar with it or its add-ons.

When using your browser, firefox to view emails, that is webmail and not monitored by the Mail Shield, but the Web Shield, so clean notes can’t be inserted for email viewed through your browser.

There is no inference that avast inserts them but you can’t see them, it isn’t working and why is the problem. Hopefully some of the above information will resolve that.

In 4.8 there were two options, insert clean notes in outbound email and or insert clean notes in inbound email; there is no such distinction in 5.0, it is clean notes or no notes for both IN and OUT and for me that is a total waste on inbound email, so I don’t bother at all.
