AVAST “CLEAN SCAN HISTORY” does not clean actual scan log files
avast 2014 users can clean scan history via
AVAST UI>>SETTINGS>>GENERAL>>“CLEAN SCAN HISTORY” button
avast saves all scan history logs here- (if i m not wrong)-
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\report (Windows 2000 and Windows XP )
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report (Windows Vista and above )
I found that cleaning scan log via avast UI will not delete (or make them empty) the file stored on above locations.
Yes scan logs will be disappeared from “Scan history” window, but they actually resides on above location.
I have checked the files size before and after cleaning log and found they are same.
I may be wrong but if it is a bug then it should be fix. :
I don’t think this function ever cleared the contents of the text based logs (even in previous avast versions), it merely cleared the entries in the avastUI list. The nicely laid out information in the UI is obtained from the text based log files.
The information for the scans listed in the UI Scan History could be coming from multiple files, one for each different scan that you do, Full System Scan, Quick Scan, etc.
I don’t know if you are trying to recover some disk space or not, but these text files aren’t going to be that big. I have 9 .txt files in the <…>AVAST Software\Avast\report folder with a total of 450KB.
If you want to clean those files you can disable all Avast shields on a temporary basis. Then go ahead and delete them. You can add the file/ folder location to your file cleaning program and run it or you can delete them manually. Then re-enable Avast shields.
This is not a bug. You can’t delete files when they’re in use. That’s all there is to it.
