"Clean upgrade" procedure

What is the best way to do a “clean upgrade” from Avast BPP to Avast AEA (Enterprise Endpoint Protection Suite Plus)? There is documentation on how to install the product, but there isn’t any documentation on how to remove the old product to prepare for installing the new product.

Well, it looks like it pretty much does it for you. I tried “upgrading” today, and it uninstalled the current version. Then I had to reinstall the new version.

Yes, this issue of old leftovers should be eliminated. I have a document, in cleanup, if you need it!

I just did an uninstall (with reboots) and cleaned up the bits and pieces with ccleaner.

That usually is all thats needed. Let me know if you need to see “when all else fails” document.

Did it keep settings / groups / etc or did you basically have to re-do everything?

There will be NO residual settings. You will need to set it back up.

FYI - Performing an upgrade on an existing BP console (setup_console_bp.exe) to the “small office” console (setup_console_eps.exe) retained all settings.

That is fantastic! SOA uses SQL Lite, so I assumed that because SQC uses SQL, and that the engine was completely different, that the settings would not stay. And, when you ASSUME … !

It was smart enough to retain the existing pre-installed database. I’m sure 4 versions from now this will result in some major headache for me, but for now it appears to be a supported “hybrid” confirugation that allowed for a quick upgrade with out much headache.
