I know this sounds straight forward but how do you clear only specific parts of the log (ie warning, error etc)?
reason I ask is because I didnt know if the clear log button just erases entries under each category or the entire log
ps a red pop up box came up in the corner when I disconnected from the internet saying Avast failed to update, was this just to let me know I had disconnected while it was attempting an update and will it harm my software for cutting it off mid process?
Just click the warning icon (or what ever log you wish to clear) and from the menu, File, Delete Current Log.
There should be zero impact in having disconnected whilst avast is checking for updates, it simply wont be able to connect to the download servers, the error is just to say it has tried all the servers in the servers.def list but failed to connect. If there would be any impact it would be within avast possibly servers.def file, but that should be correctable using the repair function.
You can do this, open avast! then click on setting. Look for Logging then new box will open. There u can limit the size of avast! log and specific what kind of log should be safe. As for me, I’ll only logging start from warning level…
I would say there is nothing to be concerned with unless there was a regular occurrence of it, there could be any number of reasons why an update failed and dropping your connection as you mentioned would be one.
