CNBJ2530.DPB ... {STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR}

CNBJ2530.DPB … {STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR} . . . but I don’t think it’s due to a failing hard drive

The error I get:

File C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prncacla.inf_x86_256f8ce50f892a14
\I386\CNBJ2530.DPB|>_5_Kolt50vpJyqlets20vm3zt2n4b Error 0xC000009C {STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR}

1.) There was a cyclic redundancy error for this before for CNBJ2530.DPB . . . Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)(23)

I read this page . . . Boot Scan . . . https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=141883.msg1030718#msg1030718

I ran CHKDSK /X /R . . . and that fixed that

2.) Would the above mean the “DriverStore” copy is corrupt, due to a Hashtag mismatch? There is a lot of talk about this on other forums, with no conclusion. They just say that Windows has an outdated copy, and leave it at that.

3.) I was trying to figure out how I could repair the driver for the Canon Bubblejet, CNBJ2530.DPB

a.) I went to install this printer driver through the Control Panel in Win 8.1, but this printer was not listed.

b.) I went to the Canon web page to try and get this driver, but it was not listed

. . . My thinking is that I could install the current driver for CNBJ2530.DPB, check the driver for updates, and then de-install the printer, to get rid of {STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR}

Is the printer wireless or USB ?

As if the printer is plugged in and turned on windows should detect it and load generic drivers that is how my 8.1 worked on my printer which has no windows 8 drivers on the HP web site

I don’t even have this printer, I just get the error.

Go to control panel, devices and printers then delete the offending device by right clicking

This printer does not show as being installed (please see screenshot)

Someone has written this program, SFCFix.exe, to fix, but I have not tried:
http://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/7702-guide-cnbj2530-dpb-and-prncacla-inf-corruptions-windows-8-8-1-a.html

. . . but I don’t think it would work, it looks like it tries to fix CNBJ2530.DPB in the amd64 folder

In that case go the uninstall route, although the sysnative fix looks good

I ran Boot-Time scan on 11/27 and 11/29 (results below).

I used
7-Zip . . . http://7-zip.org/
and
MD5 and SHA Checksum Utility (free version) . . . http://raylin.wordpress.com/downloads/md5-sha-1-checksum-utility/
to verify the hastags on the individual files
. . . I see that the two of them are different . . . Is this what flags it in Avast?

The scan on 11/29 only found one occurrence:

I ran the Sysnative program, SFCFix.exe, before the Boot-Time Scan on 11/29, but it found no corruptions:

I’ve been running Boot-Time Scan with the following settings:

Areas to scan: All harddisks, and Auto-start programs (all users)
Heuristics sensitivity: High
[check] Scan for PUPs
[check] Unpack archive files
When a threat is found: Fix automatically

It seems like this might not be the wisest thing to do . . . It seems like there should be a note to say that Boot-Time Scan should only be run as a last resort, and when you do, set a Restore Point first (I’ve been doing that) - on the other hand, it hasn’t hosed Win 8.1 so far.

Are they actually affecting the performance of your system ? As you are going very deep into the system error reporting, and in most case they are really immaterial

. . . affecting the performance of your system ?

Not that I can see. My question is just based on the error message. On this page, I see that the answer was to de-install and re-install the driver . . . Why can’t I find this driver on the Canon web page?

This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-hardware/this-device-cannot-start-code-10/b5fa4d18-17f5-4575-bc02-25b26a2958fe?page=2

I got the problem solved by reinstalling the driver and it appears to be normal now.

With the SHA-256 hashtag verification, and finding these files in deep, hidden sub-directories? What’s so deep about that?

I asked Canon about this. They said:

The file is not a Canon file. Please view the following link for how one person resolved this issue:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/hash-mismatch/08ef49a6-84e8-47ad-bd69-48b829d495c9

If the error persists, it is recommended that either your computer manufacturer or Microsoft is contacted.

Also, I found out:

CNBJ2530.DP looks like it’s a Microsoft version of a Canon printer driver, that has a wrong hashtag . . . Is there such a printer as a Canon Bubblejet 2530? . . . Is there a Win 8.1 version of the driver for it? I could try installing it / updating it / de-installing it, and see if that clears it up . . .

Per Canon: There isn’t a Canon Bubblejet 2530 printer. According to Microsoft’s web site, it appears that the file is related to the chipset on the computer. The recommended solution is to run the DISM command [DISM says that it fixes it, but the error remains] . . .
