Chris Thomas,
That’s a pretty blanket statement. IMHO also totally untrue. (I’m not using it at the moment.)
What facts are you basing your statement on??? Do you have any proof to make such a claim ???
Actually the paid version of ZoneAlarm is useful but the Free version is a very basic firewall and other freeware Firewall like Outpost, Comodo, Online Armour or Private Firewall offer more protection that ZoneAlarm Free version
The most recent Matosec rating give the ZoneAlarm paid Extreme Security version a ‘Poor’ rating
Another thing that I find annoying is that they install a Conduit Toolbar which they have modified as ZoneAlarm Toolbar. This toolbar is their infrastructure for Anti-Phishing Protection. I am not sure if this is normal for any Firewall.
The most freaky thing I dislike is their UPGRADE button virtually everywhere in the UI.
I don’t think giving 7 direct and indirect links to UPGRADE the ZoneAlarm free version will change the minds of users to move to the paid version
There is even an UPGRADE link in the Taskbar
Maybe I am basing my ratings on personal dislike LOL
Indeed, ZoneLabs give poor support and it’s too much aggressive in pushing their paid version. Annoying.
Indeed, other freeware firewalls could do a better job.
Out of all the free firewalls I believe ZoneAlarm Free is the best one because it it is a very simple and easy to use firewall.
It is not ovecomplicated with additional security features. It does exactly what it is intended to do, act as a firewall and is a better option than the windows firewall.
As far as I am concerned, if i wanted a free firewall without the additional security bloat I would pick ZA free.
ZoneAlarm Free Firewall…mmmmmmmmmmm no thank you I’ve been there and done that years ago it not my kinda style firewall it’s a very mean, cruel, aggressive and to many bloat problems :-X
