Command line options to disable and enable shields on Windows

I’d like to use the command line to temporarily disable the Avast! shields before running a software installer and then run a second command line to re-enable them again - I’m using Avast! Free on Windows 7 so is this possible as I’m struggling to find the information I need?

My ideal solution is to create a small batch file or PowerShell script that disables Avast! shields, runs the required installer, and then re-enabled the shields after the installer has completed.

I believe that this practice would likely fall foul to the Avast Self Defence protection preventing this kind of practice.

What is wrong with using the Avast Tray icon to temporarily disable all shields.

Avast-Shield-Control

There’s definitely no such command line.

And, running a software installer is probably the most important moment when the shields should be running.

@DavidR I do know about the GUI options, I was wondering if there was a command line to do it so that I could literally create a 3-command batch file to run an installer with the shields temporarily disabled.

@igor0 Perhaps, but please tell that to Microsoft - one of their tech support threads for fixing issues when installing Visual Studio is to turn your antivirus off before running the VS installer and then switch it back on again afterwards.

I know of no such command and for the reasons mentioned by igor.

In all honesty I don’t know why you would do this even if it were possible, when it takes a couple of seconds to do via the Avast tray icon.

My reasoning is: automation.

I would like to have a simple batch file that I can run on my personal machine while I’m doing my actual day job on my work machine.

I wish I’d never asked now, never had this problem with AVG or Norton.

Me I’m fine with automation, but not when the action to automate is likely to longer than manual.
Unless you stick yet another shortcut elsewhere.
