Comodo Firewall

I have had Comodo Firewall on my Windows XP machine for quite a while. although, I Check Allow for my applications and have the box checked for all the time. It seems Comodo asks me often for a response to these same applications. IE and Firefox always get one of these pop up Comodo Boxes. This also seems to happen each time I restart my CPU. I have looked at my Application Control Rules and have both these browsers allowed many times. I have included a snapshot of this. Am I doing something wrong, or is this the way the program works. It does slow everything down considerably.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

What happens if you select the multiple entries? Are the details the same?

Roro, maybe you can set Firefox as a “trusted application”.

I find I also have this problem with comodo, however I think it may be due to the fact that I run Firefox etc. from a memory stick so it could be that the rules are forgotten when removed.

To get around this though I add the executable to the “my own safe files” section, and everything else contained in the relevant folder and now I don’t have the problem.

That is a old and no longer supported version of Comodo (2.4.X?). Any reason you haven’t upgraded? The current version is 3.8.

It is normal for Comodo (or any good firewall) to ask for new permissions after upgrading Firefox or any program because the cryptographic signature of the program has changed.

Jahn,
I checked my version and it is 3.0. I am sorry that I haven’t updated my profile and will do that now. When I try to update through the program it says there are no updates available, but I will check at the website.
Scott and Tech,
I do have Comodo on my computer not a memory stick, but I have added Firefox.exe to my trusted applications and will see if that helps.
Freewheeling Frank,
When I check the details of the Firefox notations, they are different for different applications, but the thing that bothers most is that I have to reallow them access whenever my machine restarts, and that seems to take forever. I try to just hibernate to avoid that, but updates sometimes require a restart.
Thanks to you all, and I will try all your suggestions. They have helped me to understand how Comodo works more clearly.

I installed the new Comodo Firewall 3.8. It was one of those installs when you have to tell the installer to just install the Firewall and not the antivirus. After doing so, my computer froze, then I couldn’t get my internet connection to work even though I tried to repair it with NetMagic. I finally uninstalled Comodo again, and now my Internet and wireless connection is fine. I really don’t want to install Comodo again, but know I should have a firewall along with the Windows one. Which one is the easiest to use and the least intrusive? ??? I dislike those pop up boxes, but know they are a necessary evil. As far as I know I don’t use this laptop to access unsavory websites unless Youtube is one of them.

ZoneAlarm Free   8)

Online Armor Free is also another good free firewall too

Another vote… or you can try PcTools firewall.

agree! duo to the test, Online Armor has most secure firewall, also the free version is good firewall

I am downloading Online Armor Free now. Are there any suggestions on installation that I should know, or is it pretty straightforward? I know to shut down any open programs, but don’t want to have any problems with my wireless network.

Comodo is a notoriously bad uninstaller-like Symantec, McAfee, … they make it difficult for you to ever leave. They are in denial and don’t produce an uninstall utility, but one of the more knowledgeable mods posted his version recently at http://forums.comodo.com/empty-t36499.0.html that might work for you. Cleaning up the residue first will usually help with the install of a new firewall. As far as OA, you should download and install the Release Candidate 3.5.0.3 at http://support.tallemu.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=6706 . There have been a lot of changes and upgrades since the original release last year, and lots of beta testing done prior to the RC to pick up the last few issues before the next release.

Thanks sded,
I downloaded the bat file and ran it. Everything is still working well. About OA isn’t the 3.5.0.3 file a beta release. I am not good enough at computing to test betas. Do you really think that would be a better one to install than the 3.0.0.190 that I downloaded from the OA website?

RoRo

3.5.0.3 should give most users even less problems than 190. It is out as a release candidate to pick up the last few items not caught in all the beta testing; could be released anytime with just some discrepancies in the release notes. But if you don’t have any issues with 190, no reason not to wait a few days. If you have any 190 problems, then the RC ugrade fixes almost all of the known issues after all the closed and public betas on the list. Most issues in an RC are related to newly discovered incompatibilities after the beta cycle, some with workarounds and some with either changes prior to release or added to discrepancy lists for followup resolution after release. I currently am running Vista and have no significant issues, one minor workaround that is deferred.

Sounds reasonable Sded. I will download the newer version and still wait a few days before I install, checking for updates all the time.
Thanks for all your help.
