Compatability issue with Hamachi

All,

There seems to be a compatibility issue between Avast and Hamachi.
I’ve post the details on the Hamachi forum, but heres a copy:

All,

Might work for some, but I found one of my PCs was having trouble connecting, and identified the cause back to Avast.

Symtoms:

  • From hamachi I keep getting a “connection to mediation server was unexpectedly disconnected” message.
  • Task Manager showed that ashServ.exe had a higher than normal usage of the CPU
  • My firewall s/w showed the TCP connections to bibi.hamachi.cc were ok, and by-directional.

I experiemented with switching off each scanner within Avast, and located that it was the Standard Shield causing the issue.

I tried adding c:\program files\hamachi\hamachi.exe to the Advanced “exclude” list, but it didn’t work.

Solution (for me): Was to add c:\program files\hamachi*.* under Standard Shield → Customise → Advanced → Locations in Avast. Now it connects fine.

My versions:

XP Home SP2
Avast Standard Shield: 4-7-844
Hamachi 1.0.0.60 (and .61)

Hope this helps…

What may have been better would have been to find out what standard shield (ashServ.exe) was scanning.

I’m not sure how avast would interact with a Virtual Private Network or if it would be able to being private.
