I saw Spyware Terminator suggested on these boards as a good real time spyware protection ap and am trying it out. On installation, it asked if I wanted to have it also provide virus protection. Does this augment or conflict with Avast?

No, ClamWin integrated into SpywareTerminator won’t conflict with avast.
But it will drop your performance. Nowadays, I wouldn’t even use the ST resident, avast is enough for me. I use only them (ST and Clam) for on-demand scannings.
