Computer extremely slow

Hi everyone

I had a warning from my computer saying it had a very low
memory. I deleted some files from the D drive and the computer
got so slow now that it takes so long to open the Internet page that I give up.
Please help

Deleting files doesn’t increase memory.

deleting files increases storage space.

I had a warning from my computer saying it had a very low memory.

That usually means low virtual memory.

Right click on My Computer. Click on Properties. Then Advanced>Settings>Advanced

Under Virtual Memory, click the Change button.

What are the settings?

What amount of memory do you have on your machine?

The setting should either be Custom size or System managed size.

If custom, Initial size is usually 1.5 x RAM, Maximum size 3 x RAM.

(For 1G RAM, the settings are 1536/3072.)

change it to system managed size-i had that problem a-while back and that fixed it
click on the system managed size icon and click on set and ok and then apply and ok again and ok again and then you will have to reboot your computer…

According to this, the page file could be corrupt if the settings are OK. Worth a try?

(I’m assuming your disk is not full.)

Problems with Virtual Memory

It may sometimes happen that the system give ‘out of memory’ messages on trying to load a program, or give a message about Virtual memory space being low. Possible causes of this are:
The setting for Maximum Size of the page file is too low, or there is not enough disk space free to expand it to that size.

The page file has become corrupt, possibly at a bad shutdown. In the Virtual Memory settings, set to “No page file,” then exit System Properties, shut down the machine, and reboot. Delete PAGEFILE.SYS (on each drive, if more than just C:), set the page file up again and reboot to bring it into use.

Thanks to all.

Before I do anything suggested here I want to say that the warning saying my disk was low in space, also recommended to get rid of unnecessary files.
So I went to the D drive to delete what I thought were unnecessary files ( I don’t know much about computers).
Now which of the above suggestions is better?

Your disk space is low, but on which partition ? eg. C: , D: , E: etc.

BTW This program is great for removing junk files from your computer http://www.ccleaner.com/

Your disk space is low, but on which partition ? eg. C: , D: , E: etc.

I think is D.

Go into my computer right click c: and click properties. You’ll be able to see how much free space you have left. Do the same for d: …

C had no space occupied. It was empty.
D had almost no space free. I clicked on
clean it of unnecessary files but still almost no space left.
and E has 4 things in it.

                                        Size

Java Runtime En… installed 4KB
Java Runtime En… installed None
Java runtime En… installed None
MUWeb ControlCl… installed 208 KB
Shockwave Flash installed 8KB

Then put some of the bigger files on your d: partition to c: or e: .
Or just delete/uninstall the stuff you don’t need.
Why do you have 3 partitions if you only use 1 of them ?
Start using them all.

;D You are talking Chinese to me.
I don’t know anything about computers.
what you mean , why I have three partitions?
How do I use them? ???

Darth

Then put some of the bigger files on your d: partition to c: or e:
How do I do this?

Mike is right, it's that simple unless windows is looking for a certain program to be on a certain drive or in a certain folder. If that's the case then simply moving will make it hard or sometimes impossible to access your programs.

Before you start to move things around, ask your self how important access to anything you move is to you.
Can you afford to loose access to any of the items (Folders etc) you move.

If you don’t know anything about computers, then seek the advice of a friend who does or,
seek professional help at a local shop.
