Configuration Backup Access Denied

Hello,

I cannot make backup of avast! configurations anylonger. Everytime I try it keeps popping me up "Error while exporting configurations. Access Denied".

The thing is I had to reinstall avast! as it was sometimes suddenly using almost all my computer's memory and then coming back to low use, making a eternal looping. Very weird. I could see memory use increase by task manager and then decrease, but starting to increase again right after.

The thing is that I reinstalled the program in another location and the memory use problem was over. Like, it was at "C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\" and now it's on "D:\AVAST Software\".

I can't figure out what is causing the error.

It was a normal installation. The only two thing I made differently were I installed out of "Program Files" folder (either with 64 bits system) and that I put all applications (executables) of avast! as being executed as Administrator, on Windows 7.

Is it the cause of the problem? Or what should it be? I tried to remove administrator permissions on executables without resolving results.

I'm only using avast! and Windows Firewall as security programs and I'm not running almost anything out of own system applications, except Skype and hardware driver's applications, like VIA Audio Deck.

The access denied problem occurs on any folder, either on own avast!'s folder, while I try to save the backup.

Can anyone help me with this? I thought this error would simply disappear with new updates, but no... ;D

have you tried to turn off avast self protection?..dont forget to turn it back on

I just tried then, but it didn’t work. Still “Acess Denied”. o.o

Thanks, anyway.

Windows 7 brings a feature that can help you in case of problems with the PC, the “System Restore”. With it you can recover the system in cases such as virus infection, installing drivers and incorrect installation or uninstallation of programs problematic. All done quickly and without destroying computer documents.

Follow the “Start” menu and right click on “Computer”. Then click on “Properties”.

  1. Right now you can see which units (hard drives or partitions) will be affected by the restoration. Select the partitions you want to restore and click “Finish” to start the process.

Eight. The window warns that after the restore begins, it can not be stopped. Click “Yes” to continue.

@jefferson santiag

and what would system restore help with in this case?

We have a calendar with the date and time of the restore points

??? ?

would have to know the day and time it was made the changes before proceeding to restore, in this case, it is up to the user.

i still cant see how this will help with his question

was made a wrong installation on drive D, ie CD and DVD drive instead of C: local disk in this case would uninstall

yes…uninstall and reinstall may help

so why post the restore point guide above ::slight_smile:

The thing is I had to reinstall avast! as it was sometimes suddenly using almost all my computer's memory and then coming back to low use, making a eternal looping.

So, thanks for the help and suggestions, but I don’t have any restore point from before the installation. I guess they are already gone… And that guide might have taken a lot of work and time, lol. But not so helpful in my case.

Anyway, I still can’t do that. I’ll try the uninstall and reinstall, from Pondus. I don’t wanna lose my PC’s configurations with a restore. I’ll try later, and I’ll install in another location again, so that no registry from avast! of actual location remains. I guess it won’t work as the problem occured after the reinstallation, but I’ll try.

Thank you, guys, your work is awesome.

I reinstalled, lost my avast!'s configurations and… I still can’t backup it. I am sad now… I have to reconfigure every single module again. :cX

It still says the error “Access Denied”. And I installed in another position: 'D:\A\AVAST Software\Avast'.

I’m just using avast! and Windows Defender in my PC. I’m almost sure there are no virus (because we never can have certain, 'cause some may be hidden, like rootkits). And I ran Combo Fix from Bleeping Computer to see if nothing else could be found and no virus found. \o/

What should I do? Is it because I installed outside “Program Files”? I’m running a x64 system.

My D disk is not the DVD drive. It’s another hard drive (or a partition of C, I don’t remember now, but I believe it is another hard drive). Sorry to disappoint you… \o/

My CD-DVD drive is E.

Any way to repair this? I’m still with the error either in V8.
