conflict question

Hey, im wanting to install the avast home edition but i have norton internet security installed. Does anyone know what the consequences are or problems this may cause? Im not looking to uninstall norton due to the firewall it provides

 Should NOT have Avast AND Norton ( anything ) installed
 on your computer at the same time; will cause big-time
"conflicts" . There are lots of good & FREE firewalls
 available to take the place of the Norton one, including
 the bought out, then abandoned by Symantec/Norton
 called "Sygate Personal Firewall", best downloaded from
 www.filehippo.com/download_sygate_personal_firewall/ .
 The bigger problem is to COMPLETELY REMOVE Norton
 by : 1) ""Uninstalling" ALL its components from 
Add/Remove Programs; 2) Run the "Norton Removal Tool"
which is available at : www.majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html ; 3) Use your computer's "Search > All files and folders",
using the search "term" "Symantec" and later "Norton" and

“Delete” ALL it finds ; 4) If possible, use a SAFE & GOOD
registry cleaner to remove entries there .

I have never used the Norton Internet Security package - so you must take my comments only as my assumptions of what Symantec would do.

I suspect that the package has combined products into a single installation and that you do not have the option in add/remove programs to just remove the Norton AntiVirus component of the packge.

It would be worth checking whether there is a Custom Install option that would allow perform an install of just the firewall component.

If these options are not avaialable then it would seem you would need to make an all or nothing choice with the NIS package.

It was suggested above that no Norton product should be on your system to avoid conflicts. That, like my comments here, is an opinion - not a statement of fact.

The important issue is not to try to run avast in a system where Norton Antivirus is installed (or not completely removed). avast runs just fine with other Norton products.
