Confused please help!

Hello all,

Please help me as I am confused:

The other day Avast notified me that I had a threat and that the threat had been blocked, here is the confusing part for me:

Before I could finish reading about the threat and take the recommended action the notification box disappeared.
I then did a boot time scan and it found no infections, I also did a full system scan and that also found no infecetions.
So what happend?
Why did it say I had and infection when my system came up clean.

I am using Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit OS.

Please advise thanks.

Difficult to say as we can’t know (now) which triggered the alert…
But, if you’re clean now, it’s ok. Don’t worry.
Want to be sure? Maybe other online scanners or MBAM.

You supplied your own answer before you asked the question. ;D

Thanks tech, I am greatful for your reply.

I am using Avast 5.0 FREE ANTIVIRUS, I am also using SUPERANTISPYWARE FREE EDITION is this a good combination?

Tech please could you put a suggestion forward to the Alwil team?
Please could you suggest on my behalf that in the next major release of Avast 5.0 that they please increase the time limit that notifications are displayed for: definition updates threat alerts, infact for all notifications?

I ask this because I have an eyesight problem and before I finish readomg the pop up alert it has disappeared off screen.
Would it be possible for the user to close all notification windows and alerts themselves once they have read it?

Thanks

There are two options available to you in this instance:

  1. The pin, you can pin down so that the message will not disappear intil you close it.

  2. Right click the tray icon → choose ‘Show last popup message’

This should give you ample time to read the message.

Thank you Scott, your answer was very helpful, I have one more question for you and please forgive me for asking this, but how do I pin down the message so that the message will not disappear till I want to close it?
Please let me know thank you in advance:)

The first image shown, shows two small elements the normal X to close and on the left of that a Pin, clicking that pin pins it in place.
