"Connected to new network": Avast scans a new network that isn't there!

Hello everyone!

I apologize immediately both for my English and for reposting a thread (although dated) for an inconvenience that I’ve been experiencing for a few weeks: here.

I have Windows 10 PRO and Avast Free Antivirus, today updated to version 24.8.6127 (build 24.8.9372.864). The internet connection is via an ethernet cable.

As mentioned, for several weeks now and without me having changed anything (including installing new programs that have not happened), when I turn on my computer, a pop-up window always (or almost always) appears saying that a new network has been detected and that it has been scanned.

Basically Avast detects a new network and scans it.
Once scanned, I always get the same result, that is everything is ok.

Can you give me some suggestions? Thanks in advance for your attention and help.

Sorry for the delay in responding and, once again, heartfelt thanks to everyone for their support and effort in trying to solve this problem of mine.

Thank you very much DavidR!

Hi prokopes_ and, to you too, thank you very much for your help!
Unfortunately I have to point out that I am not a “Premium” user, but a “free user” of Avast (Free, precisely) and I have not installed the firewall module of my Avast Free, but I use a third-party firewall (not Windows Firewall), so I think I cannot, at the moment, follow your suggestions.

So I’m not the only one to encounter this problem, right?

I noticed that by forcing the network scan manually, the problem occurs a little less often.
I don’t know if this problem is related to the option (selected by default) “Rescan networks automatically” …

Thanks again to everyone for the help!

You could increase the prospects by submitting a support file as requested by prokopes_ and attaching the screenshot requested.

Here we have an Avast Team member seeking more information, I would jump on the chance if it were impacting me.

This happens on two of my PCs too. I hope it gets fixed soon.

Thanks for the input, however the OP is using Avast Free and the Avast Firewall component isn’t installed and using a 3rd party firewall (not mentioned by name).

Hi, thank you for reporting this. Can you please send us logs from your device so we can check what might be the culprit? The process is described here: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/submit-support-file/
Once the logs are generated, please send me the “File ID” of your logs.
If possible, please also include a screenshot of the Avast Premium Security menu - Protection - Firewall - Networks.

I tried to attract some attention to your topic - but I gave the wrong url to a different post - and possibly a different issue.

I have corrected that error and hopefully it will attract the attention I tried to get.

I think the problem may be with the interface, if you don’t have the Avast Firewall component then you wouldn’t be able to set the local ethernet to Private as in my second image in Reply #1 above your reply.

So I don’t know if/how your 3rd party firewall and the Network Shield would interface/communicate - I suspect this is something that Avast may need to investigate.

But it looks like the Network Shield isn’t or can’t interface with the firewall, so your network won’t be set to trusted.

See my previous topic relating to issues between Avasts Network Shield and the Windows firewall - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=328261.0 - as this smacks of something similar. Though you don’t mention any of my main problem “Avast Tray Icon - You are Unprotected” when using the Windows Firewall with the Avast Firewall component removed.

First of all, thank you very much for the reply and support!

I should have specified that currently (and forever on this computer) I do not use either the Windows firewall or the Avast firewall, but a third-party firewall software.

I checked in the Windows settings and my ethernet network is still set as “public network”.
However, this evening, I ran a scan, yet another one, from the “Network Inspector” module and, at the end, the network was detected as “home”. So I changed the setting and it is also set as “public network”.

What I find strange is that, during last weeks, I have not installed any new programs, nor changed any settings and, in any case, at the end of the network scan no problems of any kind are detected.

Is your Network set to Private (Trusted) or Public in the Firewall settings. Are you using the Avast Firewall component ?

If your connection is via an Ethernet cable to your Router/Modem hub then it could be considered trusted as mine is. Which I have selected in the Avast Firewall settings.

Now if I connect via WiFi to the Router/Modem then my Router/Modem require a password to connect. Essentially any outside attempt to connect to my WiFi network it would require a password.
