consrv.dll, desktop.ini, de_serv.dll...so many more

I have windows 7 sp1 64 bit with the latest updates.
My system is infested with several viruses that I have struggled to get rid of. After I’ve run avast and malwarebytes all the threats are chested or deleted. But then windows fails to boot.

I’m unable to go into safe mode and system repair fails to repair anything, so I was forced to system restore back to the infected state. I have gone through this several times.

I have discovered c:\windows\system32\consrv.dll, if it gets removed windows fails to boot up. Avast calls it a Win32:Sirefef=HO [Rtk]. I have researched this and some malware tampering with the registry I have changed the windows string in HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Contorl\Session Manager\SubSystems from consrv.dll to winsrv.dll. This didn’t help

I have attached the results from OTL and aswMBR

did malwarebytes detect anything…if so attach that log also

Whilst I check the OTL

Re-Run aswMBR

Click Scan

On completion of the scan
Click the Fix Button

Save the log as before and post in your next reply

I was gone the whole day pretty much after my first post. I just got back home. I’ll re-run aswMBR. As for Malwarebytes, it’s been locking up on me, but I’ll give it go and see what happens.

it may be malware blocking it…

so you can try this

Thanks Pondus,

aswMBR finished with its fix then rebooted my computer. Before the boot my computer did a file system check. Don’t know if it was because of aswMBR or if my computer thought now was a good time to do it. But, it checked out and my comp booted up. I’m running another aswMBR scan and I’ll post the results of that. Then onto malewarebytes.

Here is the aswMBR log. I’ll have the malewarebytes log shortly.

Also I forgot to mention, two desktop.ini files appeared on my desktop after aswMBR fix rebooted my machine don’t know if that’s relevant.

Here’s the malwarebytes log.

OK this may be yet another variant

We may well need multiple runs with combofix to clear it completely … But lets see what the first run gives us

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Here is the combofix log. Everything seems to be running fine so far. Booted up ok.

Could you now run a fresh OTL scan for me please to check for remnants

You have two active antivirus

AVG Internet Security and Avast

Thanks essexboy, argus, and pondus for your help. I’ll post an update tomorrow.

After a full day of no problems, I think I’m cured. For now at least.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
