[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

THEN

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

 • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

 1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
 2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
 3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

FINALLY

To remove Babylon and associated rubbish

Download AdwCleaner from here to your desktop
Run AdwCleaner and select Delete

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/AdwCleaner.GIF

Once done it will ask to reboot, allow this
On reboot a log will be produced please attach that

Here are the logs. ComboFix may have not run properly because my computer froze and I had to reboot. Although, ComboFix started right back up when I restarted and produced a log.

We still need to replace the services file, once this has completed could you let me know what problems remain

 1. Close any open browsers.
 2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
 3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
FCopy:: C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-s..s-servicecontroller_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6002.18005_none_d14b3973ca6acc56\services.exe|c:\windows\system32\Services.exe
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exeWhen finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Notes:

 1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
 2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
 3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Now I have a more serious problem. I ran ComboFix by following the directions in the last reply and after it restarted the screen just goes black. I cant log in or nothing. Windows tries to start up then goes black. Tried turning the computer off several times and all I get is the black screen. Tried getting in using safe mode and nothing. I can move the cursor but that is all. Any ideas?

There is a problem there with the transfer of the services file

Download the following three programmes to your desktop :

 1. WiNTBootIc
 2. Windows Vista 64bit RC

A log will be generated on the USB drive

Reboot to normal windows

Once there then please run OTL and post the logs along with the FRST fix log

Still wasn’t able to boot up to windows normally.
Here is the fix log.

Reboot to the recovery console and this time select startup repair… Meanwhile I will look at a second fix if required

Start up repair said it couldn’t find anything to repair. Switched it back to my hard drive in boot and still didn’t start up. Did you want me to run the fix again before I did the start up repair?

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same USB drive as FRST
Restart the computer as before to the recovery console
Run FRST and click Fix

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Farbar/FRST2.gif

A log will be generated on the USB drive

Reboot to normal windows

Once there then please run aswMBR and OTL and post the logs along with the FRST fix log

Few things happened. When I tried to do the last task it tried to do a start up repair on its own and it restarted. No change. Then I tried doing the fix in your last reply and still no change.
When you say “reboot to normal windows” am I supposed to go to boot and switch it back to my hd?
Would re installing windows cd possibly help? I don’t have much on this computer and don’t mind starting from scratch.
Thank you again for working so hard.
Heres the fix log.
David

Yes try to boot from the HD now, remove the USB

Yes thats what I thought you meant and still black screen after start up. What should we do now?

Ok boot to the recovery console, select command prompt
Type in the following command

cd /d c:\windows\erdnt\hiv-backup\erdnt.exe

Note there is a space between cd and / , and between /d and c:

Ok, really weird but good news. I went to boot up this morning and it started up and I’m in! I don’t know what ups, I didn’t even get a chance to try the last post. Anyway, do you want me to run a OTL quick scan?
BTW I haven’t seen one pop up since its been up.

Yes please … I will be intrigued to find out what has changed… Mayhap the Gremlins have gone on holiday
