My school district recently installed a new web filter that allows us greater monitoring capabilities. I’ve noticed that our avast users are hitting http://files.avast.com/files/vpn_ssid_notif.txt multiple times a second. This txt file seems to only contain:
SSID
Starbucks
KFC
McDonalds
A post here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=103270.0 suggest that this is related to connecting/disconnect a VPN, but users are do not use VPN. It seems like a lot of transactions that occurs for no reason. Does anyone have an idea what is generating this traffic? Thanks!
We’re going to restart our server here soon. Every computer we’ve imaged over the summer has been rebooted at least once since put into regular operation. I’m still wondering what in the application would be causing this behavior. As far as transactions go, this particular file has hit 65k transactions on our network. Our second highest for the same time period is only 15k.
Did you ever resolve the issue? Having the same problem here on hundreds of machines. None of these machines have ever connected to a VPN. Any ideas? Does your problem still occur?
