I have no issue paying for a good virus checker, and I have the Internet Security version for my computers. What really gets on my nerves is the constant trying to sell me another product saying there is a problem and that to fix it just costs…x amount more. So, my question to you is, do you want me to keep paying for avast or find another that will not try and bother me with a sales pitch every other day? This is what drove me away form norton years ago, since it spent more time trying to remind me it was there and how I should really want to give them more money when I already paid for it.
I get that you are a business, and you come out with new products, and you can send me an email telling me all about them. The constant ‘you have a problem’ when most of the time it really isn’t a problem, just something that could be cleaned up. If you can’t convince marketing not to try and upsell me every time you turn around give me a “NO SALES BS” option so I can stop getting annoyed with having to turn on silent mode all the time to get it to shut up.
It’s a virus checker, I want it to protect my computers, and when there is something important…like a virus or a bad web page or things that I do want it to do its job for, yes, then it should speak up. If not, sit back in the background and do that job. Selling me new products isn’t what I’m paying for. So please…take it out or let me turn it off, or I might not renew again and find a virus checker that will do the job and not bother me with constant upselling of new products.
In the general settings there is a “Show offers for our other products” which is unchecked, but I still get the ‘these programs are slowing you down’, which is another program to cleanup things that the last time I trusted a program to ‘clean up’ my registry I had to reinstall.
I’ve turned silent mode back on, but it even complains about that.
The only time I want to think about a virus checker is when it’s time to renew. The rest of the time I just want it to do it’s job and not bother me.
I just leave silent mode on most of the time now. There is an option to allow for actual alerts, so it rarely bothers me now. I get that companies need to make money to stay in business, but you can’t go to a web page anywhere just about without it wanting your email 5 seconds after opening it. Maybe there should be special programs and browsers for marketers that shove something in their face every other minute to get the point across…
Tim, you’re absolutely right. What Avast is doing is just hilarious. What has happened to AV business lmao. Are companies and devs so dull by now? This will be the last time buying an avast license, and if it was possible I would get a refund, but I bought the license for like 5€ anyway so idc. This behavior of always showing popups just to pull money out the pockets of users, they are just like those devs at Google play coding shitty apps. It’s not about good software anymore, it’s about selling subscriptions for crappy software. Avast, you should be ashamed!
sure wish i had seen this before purchasing my first license with avast, daily i get the same notifications, every scan im told whats slowing my pc down, mind you i have other FREEEEEE products that actually take care of that side of things, i purchased this one for the security of having a valid virus checker with support and the whole 9 yards. Flash forward a month and it has let more stuff slip through than a busted window screen. yet it can offer me the support for my other “needs” that i dont need it for. If i could refund and just go with a freebie i would but hindsight is always 20/20. i laugh at myself for thinking the paid antivirus would do its job, thus making it obsolete if it does to well of a job eventually, there always needs to be a sliver of a threat present to feel you need one.
