Just downloaded Avast to try it out, recommended by a friend. However, the control panel is popping up on my desktop every few seconds - and it’s blank, no alerts, warnings, etc. The left-hand navigation is there, but the window is white and blank. When I click the ‘X’ it goes away, but a few second later, the panel pops up again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twoice, same thing always happens. Any help for this?
did you remove the previous used AV before installing avast ?
did you use a removal tool to clear all leftovers ?

yes, to both questions.
tried avast repair and reboot ?
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next
Yes, I did that before I posted.
OK, trouble shooting this past hour, I have a three-monitor system. The pop ups happen everytime I move an application window from monitor to monitor. For example, if I move my email window from one to another, the control panel pops up. Same with word, IE, Google, whatever I’m working on at the time, if it gets moved to another monitor, the panel pops up. Since I do this often, the panel pops up all the time.
Take a look at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=83314.0.
After more trouble shooting, the pop ups appear only after a scan - they don’t show up until then, but again, using my 3 monitors, when I move an app window from monito to monitor. This is too buggy for me, I’m sure Avast is a great program for simple systems, I’ll uninstall and look at another AV program.
