Could Avast4 Home be blocking Windows XP home wireless network?

Hi I’m running Avast4 Home on a laptop connected to a tower using a Windows XP home wireless network.

The laptop can see the files on the tower but when the tower tries to see files on the laptop I get a an error message, ‘…files not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the administrator …’

Could this be because Avast4 Home on the laptop is blocking the connection?

If so are there Avast4 Home settings that would allow the tower to see the laptop files?

(Note Windows firewall is turned off on the laptop)

Feedback Appreciated.

avast does not block network connections.

I think that this may be a fairly simple problem that is not caused by avast but instead is happening because the cumulative installs of various products (including avast) has caused you to “run out” of a Windows resource.

Please check the Windows Event log on your laptop (Control Panel > Administrative tools > Event Viewer > System

Look to see if the explanation given in any recent events is “Insufficient memory to process request” or something close to that.

If you have such events then there is a fairly simple fix.

Please let us know.

Why? Do you use a hardware (router) firewall?
