Crash and Runtime Error Message

Hi, I just ran avast for the first time. During the self-starting memory check I got 5 virus alerts and sent them to the chest. After the memery check was completed I got a window that said: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error: Program:C:\ PROGRAM FILES\ ALWIL SOFTWARE\ AVAST\ ASHAVAST.EXE: “This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application support team.” Can anyone tell me what to do about this? Thanks.

what kind of malware avast find? Worms, isn’t it? ::slight_smile:

Probably ignore it.

If you have asked avast to move something to the chest and it was in memory and not directly on the hard disk, it may have had to close the MS Visual C++ runtime library and it wouldn’t have been a regular shutdown. This is however, pure speculation on my part as I don’t know exactly what avast does when removing a memory resident virus.

If you haven’t done so already reboot.

But if you really want to ensure your system is clean, then right click on the avast icon and click Start avast! Antivirus, this will do a memory check again andhopefully you won’t see the memory resident virus.

If that memory check is clear and you want to go a step further, do a thorough scan of all local drives including archives. This is likely to take a very long time, do it last thing at night and go to bed after a short while.
