Since it’s so nasty, file infectors should be known to as many as computer users but I guess we have communication problem… Omega40, I thought you followed this thread and found how file infectors are destructive, which was why you got interested in virtualization software.
As I wrote before, I find the forums are filled by people with different levels of knowledge. I’m kind of in-between, means, while far from being specialists, quite many people around me find me a “computer-literate.” So, I can understand the general meaning of what more knowledgeable people write here while I’m unsure of each detail. For me the links given by essexboy in that thread was enough (thanx, essexboy) but, probably, it was not enough to some other people, to whom, I recommend reading about.com article linked by emantoyaks. It’s written in plain English with much fewer technical terms.
BTW, to continue with the thread, not mentioning to Sandboxie, even Returnil won’t give enough protection since it only protects C drive. Probably, other drives should be separated into external storage. I wonder if there would be better ways to keep away from these embodiments of nastiness since once they are allowed to enter our computers, they are hard to remove. Any ideas?
I also got a virus which infected my whole computer!
I was going crazy!
I was asking myself why what one of my program file also contains virus!
I’ve downloaded it from Download.Cnet!
Then I realised that my computer was completely infected there was no way to remove that virus but it wasn’t written salty on it!
[font=Segoe UI]From what I know, CNET maintains a reputation of virus-free spyware-free downloads. It is possible that the file you downloaded from CNET is just infected after being copied to your Local Disk.
ok…we finally found out it was the Win32:Vitro virus he had. Nasty little thing, ya know?
Grrrr…whatta mess! Anyways, his computer is virus free now and he is not mad at his AV anymore. lol
We are not sure if it was Virut…but it must be one of file infectors. Whatever it exactly was, I guess we can agree that they are so nasty that we don’t like to have them on our computers.
