Customer purchased Avast 4 SBS Edition Premium but mistakenly installed it on a Windows 2003 server (standard edition). The question is whether such an install can easily provide a usable installation? (Will it allow the clients to connect to the ADNM, and be functional). All of the clients were discovered, but only one client is seen as having the agent installed. No scans or updates are allowed to be performed on the created computer catalog group.
I expect the existing SBS version has to be uninstalled, and the correct avast! WIN 2003 server version installed, but I want to check in case there is a simpler method to remedy this silly situation. Will the clients need to be uninstalled as well?
I’m not sure I understand correctly. So, the customer bought only the SBS Edition (not the Suite, i.e. protection of the server only), and wants to use ADNM to manage it?
VLK,
HISTORY: The customer purchased the Avast 4 SBS Edition Premium, and four network client licenses. He has a small network, with a Windows 2003 server, and four XP Professional clients. He wants to manage the avast! centrally. My understanding is that a managed avast! installation requires using ADNM (avast! Distributed Network Manager). Please correct me if I am wrong.
I expect the existing SBS version of avast!, and the avast! network clients (which were installed from that SBS server version) have to be uninstalled. Is that correct?
Since it appears that the customer is starting over anyway, please identify the recommended avast! products, and summarize the recommended configuration for a centrally managed avast! environment (for a small Win Server 2003 environment).
from the ADNM console, push a netclient package to the XP machines and a netserver package to the SBS server (i.e. most likely the AMS machine itself)
That’s all.
BTW I don’t understand this formulation:
I expect the existing SBS version of avast!, and the avast! network clients (which were installed from that SBS server version) have to be uninstalled. Is that correct?
So, he has the netclient edition already installed (i.e. the managed version)? Or the regular (unmanaged) avast Professional Edition?
Please identify the recommended avast! products, and summarize the recommended configuration for a centrally managed avast! environment (for a small Win Server 2003 environment).
