Cyberghost VPN

Anyone using this ?

I just installed it as I managed to get a free subscription for a year following their recent promo.

Any comments welcomed.

Andy

Nothing to hide so no reason to use a VPN

Me neither really. Just thought that encrypted browsing would be beneficial over non-encrypted ?

I believe that is true, but I wouldn’t pay for it.

Maybe, it’s definitely slower.

Hi Andyonline,

I could see encryption of images could help in the light of this new malcode described here: http://blog.trendmicro.com/trendlabs-security-intelligence/malware-steals-image-files-from-systems/ Link article by Raymart Paraiso (Threat Response Engineer).
You could use AxCrypt to encrypt images. This tip came from Peter V (thanks Peter) in this posting link: javascript:quote_comment(302958) with this article link: http://www.security.nl/artikel/43790/1/Virus_steelt_foto's_van_Windows-computers.html

I have noticed two drawbacks.

Cyberghost is a bloatware ( The UI is heavy and takes a lot of time) compared to other vpns and uses only 128-bit AES key.

There is a freeware vpn though that is better

http://www.spotflux.com

It not only encrypts the communication but removes ads and malwares.

Hi

Andyonline why don,t you try Avast SecureLine VPN solution?

Avast SecureLine: http://www.avast.com/secure-line-vpn?ClickID=cviaxse47wp4xlkapafkq7wlkpeax7efwiln

PS:You can try Hotspot Shield if you want: http://www.hotspotshield.com/

I would kind of like to download that program but I’m afraid I would mess something up on my computer. :-\

As I managed to get a free ysr with Cyberghost, thats why I used them. I did see that Avast have Secureline which I may go with if I dont get on with what I have. Also Secureline would be another expense on top of Avast Internet Security, although I would say that AIS really does protect my PC very well and maybe Secureline will be yet another greest product by Avast and will take my protection that bit further !

I did read reports that Hotpot Shield is pretty good but a lot of annoying ads with the free version.

Andy

Thanks for that, it looks interesting but I will wait a bit as its a fairly young program so I will see how it develops.

Andy

Would Spotflux make any changes on my computer?

Spotflux doesn’t messes up with any settings. It will install Java if you don’t have Java installed already. Other than that, there is nothing.

You may want to untick Dashline Password Manager when installing it

I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who is/or has used 'Avast Secureling VPN service.
How was the experience? Does the service provide for easy Internet surfing without hang times and droppage of service?
It’s unfortunate there is not ‘free trial’
Any thoughts please.

Sorry, should have started new thread. ::slight_smile: :-\

Unless you need VPN service, why would you even consider such a program ???

I guess I don’t really need it but I starting installing it and Avast popped up saying their was some kind of a threat. I continued to install it anyway but it asked to change my network adapter and since I didn’t understand what that meant I checked no and that’s as far as I got. It had it’s own uninstaller so it’s no longer on my computer. I’m going to have to stop downloading and installing software that I know nothing about.

I'm going to have to stop downloading and installing software that I know nothing about.
do we need to say more. ::)

No.

Good now you’re thinking straight and learning a bit better, is never download and install any software that you’re not 100% sure never be afraid to ask or look it up through Google search for more information as possible try and keep all your problems in the one subject post as possible it doesn’t matter if you have more than one problem or software problem just keep it all in the one subject post so it doesn’t get lost.

Try not to post every subject for each problem or software that you’re not 100% sure just keep it all in the one subject post as much as you can, otherwise if you keep on doing you’re bad habit is gunna drive us nuts up to a brick wall I’m sure you’ve been told many times over ;).

Okay SpeedyPC.
