The message as others i’ve read states “unable to scan: this is a decompression bomb.” Any idea as to what this particular string is about? If this has been previously covered (seeing i’m new to this), any helpful pointers would be greatly appreciated :).
The post you referred me to was not of much help. Would you mind taking a look at the program string i reported and then get back with me on how to get rid of it? Thank you
Basically, avast! is telling you that the file in question has a very high compression ratio, and if scanned would cause it to be considerably slow (at least that is what I understand by it)
These are older logs from Zone Alarm that are extremely compressed into an archive (zip) and harmless.
A decompression bomb is an archive that, while small in size, contains a huge amount of data that when extracted causes your machine to slow down as it struggles with the large amount of data it is decompressing - the name ‘decompression bomb’ implies it is malicious, but it can be unintentional, as in this case.
If you don’t want to keep the logs (which can go back months or years), you can delete the zip file.
p.s. I haven’t used Zone Alarm in years but there may be an option in Zone Alarm to manage (limit file size or number of days) or delete the logs after a certain time period (or disable completely).
