Default Browser?

This may sound like some idiotic poll but I do, however, have a reason.
That reason will be disclosed at the end of the seven day polling session.

After you have made your selection you will not be able to change your selection.

I believe you Para-Noid. Looking forward to your reasons and findings :).

I think you just wanted to start another topic ;D

I don’t care what the disclosure might. My default browser has been chosen for a reason and it suits my browsing habits.

Trust me, it wasn’t to “just wanting to start another topic”.

I’m sure that you have a good reason. Looking forward to see what it is. Also can’t believe someone actually put IE.

+1 me too

IE works well for me  and is generally more secure than Chrome or FF (IE11 on windows 10)

The main reason for this poll was to compare what those who should know what they are doing are using for their
default browser to those who choose based on what everyone else is using.

I was not at all shocked with the results. For those who use Firefox they do so based on their well based knowledge
on how to make it their own by using add-ons and extensions based on their specific needs. The same goes for those
who use Chrome. I’m sure there are those who refuse to use Chrome due to personal fear that their privacy is being
compromised by Google. Their fears are, in my opinion, unfounded since someone somewhere is keeping track of their
internet habits. “Privacy does not exist on the internet. Security, however, does exist.”

There are those who choose IE do so because (I’m doing a little guessing here) they find both Firefox and Chrome
to be a pain in the backside to get them to function the way they need a browser to work their way. And I have a
feeling those who use IE question the security of both Firefox and Chrome. It did not surprise me that essexboy
made the statement about “the generally more secure than Chrome or Firefox”. Since he works with some pretty
nasty stuff I will not question neither his statement nor his opinion.

My purpose was not to promote a discussion on which browser is best, that is a personal decision which varies from
one user to another. I have a general idea as to who uses which browser based upon how each forum member reacts
to different posts throughout the forums. To this I say, “To each their own.” Each browser has its own good points and
their own bad points.

I have absolutely no personal knowledge of the methodology on how http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp
collect their statistics. It was this website, w3schools.com, which piqued my interest. As you can see the forum results differ
almost exponentially, and drastically, when compared with w3schools. I will now leave each one to draw their own conclusions.

Thanks for your participation.

I don’t believe they have or need a methodology since wc3 is all about website development they will be collecting browser stats when people visit various sites, they also do it for OSes.

There are other such Browser and Operating System usage statistics sites such as http://www.netmarketshare.com/ and this gives a completely different set of stats for Browsers with IE way out in front. http://www.netmarketshare.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=1&qpcustomb=0

So I guess the stats you get depend on where you look and what sites they get their data from.

Me too

It’s the extensions added to the various browsers that give you a “more” secure browser.
Without extensions, all of the modern browsers are probably on an even keel with each other when it comes to being secure.

The problem with extensions is that they are being compromised quite regularly … Mainly in Chrome to be honest but there are some Firefox ones as well

The adware inserts two files into global Firefox application directory:

%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\browser\defaults\preferences\my-prefs.js
pref(‘general.config.filename’, ‘my.cfg’);
pref(‘general.config.obscure_value’, 0);

%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\my.cfg

That pretty much depends on your choice of extensions and your vigilance.

To be honest it is mainly the user going gung ho for extensions and not watching what they are doing… Edge may be as bad when it gets extensions, although no one will be using it

PEBKAC and ID10T errors have always been the computers worst enemy.

I’d say it’s about 60% Firefox and 40% Chrome with me, but lately I’m using Chrome more and more, cause Firefox keeps crashing more frequently
