Delayed Avast Startup:

Hello Moderators.,

Sometime ago durint the early pert of 2008 I installd SuperAntispyware Pro. I had probems with the same and had to delay Avast Startup because my sustem freezed up. I would now like to have avast start with all other programs.

I have upgrated a little to my system by replacing my 80 GB with a new 160 GB HD and am now using the 80 GB as a storage drive. I Run Windows XP Pro XP3.

Can you advise me how to revert to the regular Avast startup. I can’t remember how the delay was done in the firsrt place, hence my difficulty.

Your kind attention will be appreciated.

Tanking you in advance.

In avast Program Settings > Troubleshooting

Do you have the “Delay avast loading …” box checked if so then uncheck it > OK.

I have been using SAS Pro for quite some time with avast with no problems and on this system for 9 months and no need to have delayed avast loading, so hopefully you won’t have any problems if you do then it is likely to be some other interaction.

Hi. Alanrf & DavidR

Thank you for the replies. With respect to Alanrf, I recall checking that box but I can’t find it. Can you direct me to the same?

With respect to DavidR I had some difficulty when I first began using SuperAntispyware more than a year ago. I almost had to uncheck most of its features and delay avast startup. However I got it working properly but I do not use the search for update every eight hours feature because my system is off for most of the day when I am at work. I mostly use the same at night. I now want to revert to the normal Avast startup to see how things go.

Meanwhile I look forward to your instructions with respect to the question at paragraph 1 above.

Again thank you both for your comments. Much appreciated.

Right click on the avast icon in the system tray

Select “Program Settings”
Select “Troubleshooting”

Hello Alanrf,

Man that was quick. Must be a record reply performance from any forum on the net. I was checking through the settings but did not get to troubleshooting yet. I did not think it would be found there.

I have always been impressed with this forum, more so now.

Thanks again.

best regards,

What are your system specifications as to CPU speed and RAM amount?

I like the forum indicator on the left showing if the user is online or not.

I have the SAS auto updates disabled, as I’m on dial-up and off-line a lot also, but more because it downloads the complete signature file about 3MB every time there is a single update available. Boy do I love the avast incremental update, measured in KBs rather than MBs.

So I usually only update once or twice a week but always before I do an on-demand scan.

The avast forum is fast, as there is an active community from around the world ;D so there is normally someone around.
